Design Choices
When considering ceramic tile or hardwood flooring for a room in your house, there are many styles to choose from.
Glazed Ceramic Tiles
Glazed ceramic tiles are coated with glass-forming minerals and ceramic stains and usually have a high-gloss, semi-gloss or matte finish. They resist stains and moisture much better than unglazed tiles do.
Unglazed Tiles
Unglazed tiles are very hard and dense and can be made with a variety of surface textures and treatments. Since they do not resist stains well, they are usually used for outdoor applications.
Porcelain Tiles
Porcelain tiles are much harder and denser than other tile products and are more resistant to scratches and high temperatures. Also, since porcelain’s color goes all the way through the tile, scratches and chips are less noticeable.
Granite Tiles
Granite tiles are available in a mesmerizing array of colors, patterns and grains. Granite is one of the hardest materials available, meaning that it is highly resistant to scratches and damage.
Tumbled Stone Tiles
Tumbled stone tiles have worn edges, chips, missing corners and soft surfaces, resulting in a rustic appearance. Tumbled stone tiles are ground on the back which allows for easy, by-hand application.
When thinking about new tile installation, there are a number of things to keep in mind. Most importantly, consider the size of your room. For example, while many people think that small rooms call for small tiles, this is not always the case. Often, using larger tiles can make a small room look more spacious, and fewer grout lines will create a cleaner surface appearance.
Hardwood Flooring
Elegant, beautiful, and exceptionally beautiful. Wood flooring comes in a wide range of colors, species, widths, finishes, and patterns. It’s all a matter of taste, but keep in mind that a wood floor is for life and a good specialist can help choose the best floor for you.
